Travelling with your dog: Pet Friendly Hotels

From: HappyDoggieBlog

With summer just around the corner, it’s almost time to start planning your summer vacation.

While many people like to book their dog into a kennel or have them stay with a friend during their vacation, many people also opt to take their dog with them on their summer holiday.

Boarding is sometimes pricey and there are times when you just can’t find a reliable pet sitter or kennel. With more people travelling with their dogs, pet-friendly hotels seem to be popping up all over Canada and the U.S as a result.

There are several great websites that can help you plan your travels with your dog and find the perfect pet-friendly hotel or cabin at your destination.

A popular site that offers a lot of great info and a huge directory of pet-friendly accommodations is Petfriendly.ca Just pick a region and your preferred type of accomodation. Choose from hotels, motels, cottages, vacations rentals, and B & B’s that are dog-friendly….(read more)

We also like PetscanStay.com, a lively and well-organized website that lists pet-friendly accommodations all over North America. The website is easy to navigate and offers updates on new pet-friendly hotels. It also has a lot of great pet travel tips.

Another great site to bookmark that is more specifically dog-focused is Dogfriendly.com You can search by region or you can even search by hotel chain name (just to the right of the map). This is particularly handy is you have a favourite hotel chain favourite you’d prefer to book with.

There are many options now available for travellers wishing to take their dogs along with them. It should be pretty easy to find at least one or two places for each city you’ll be visiting. Of course smaller-sized towns and more obscure, off-the-beaten-path towns may have more slim pickings of pet-friendly accommodations. However, you can usually find something close by in most regions these days.

Also take a peek at PetTravel.com for plenty of articles, news updates, pet travel links, resources and a directory of pet-friendly hotels. There’s also some good information on travelling with pets on trains, planes, boats, ferries and more. This may come in handy if you’re planning an extensive road trip or journey.

Planning ahead means less stress and the hassle of trying to find a place when you arrive at your destination. If your schedule is not organized and you’re not sure where you’ll end up each day, just bring a print out of the accommodations in the cities you’re visiting. Even better-if you have a laptop you can search one of these online directories and book right from the road!
